Sung Rae Cho “Shoichi”
Commonly referred as Shoichi (Japanese alias), Sung Rae was born to a Zainichi Korean family in Kyoto, Japan. At 16 he left home, moved to America and started his career as a camera technician on over dozens of films and television for masters such as Martin Scorsese, Barry Levinson and Robert DeNiro. In the last 10 years, the films he shot has gone onto premiere at Cannes Un Certain Regard (THE TRANSFIGURATION; Independent Spirit Award), Sundance (HOME; NAACP Directing Award), Toronto (LEARNING TO DRIVE) , SXSW (THE TRANSFIGURATION, KNOCKAROUND KIDS), TriBeCa (GRACELAND, Audience Award at TriBeCa; the Philippine’s entry to the Oscar), Tokyo IFF (NIGHTHAWK) and many others, allowing him to work virtually around the globe. Shoichi collaborates with other filmmakers and DoPs as a camera operator on some of the most popular television series for further development. Some of his tv credits include THE AMERICANS(FX), MS. AMERICA (FX), TOM CLANCEY’S JACK RYAN (Amazon Prime), BILLIONS (Showtime) THE DIVORCE (HBO), GYPSY (Netflix), THE GET DOWN (Netflix), THE SINNER (USA), CASTLE ROCK (Hulu), MASTER OF NONE (Netflix), etc.
